Martin Keown tears into tepid Arsenal and Arsene Wenger after 3-1 defeat to Liverpool

Arsenal were deservedly beaten at Anfield on Saturday following a disappointing display. Top scorer Sanchez watched from the bench after Wenger opted to start with Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck in attack instead and saw his team trailing 2-0 at half-time.
Wenger brought the Chilean on after the break and things improved, with Sanchez providing the assist for Welbeck to pull a goal back. However a late Liverpool goal sealed the result.
Keown was baffled by the decision to drop Sanchez for the trip to Merseyside.
‘Dropping Sanchez was stunning,’ the former defender told Match of the Day.
‘I really can’t understand the thinking behind that. He’s their best player. They didn’t actually play direct [Wenger’s reasoning for the decision] in the match.’
